would you want to know who Angela from the Inheritance Cycle really is?
ok I admit that maybe the title was a slight exaggeration.
maybe
BUT STILL
Just hear me out on this one: since her first appearance in Eragon, Angela has remained a figure of much mystery in Alagaesia. Combined with the both genius and frustrating way that Christopher portrayed her general mystique, the curious teenage girl part of me has been dying to know who Angela really is since she was, like, eleven.
however
looking at it as a writer and a reviewer, I’m beginning to think that it would be better for us all if Angela remained an enigma…
*cue mysterious music*
Tales of Alagaesia Vol II is set to be realased “in the next handful of years” (https://www.paolini.net/faq/) and I’m beginning to dread the possibility that this could be the book where Angela’s backstory is revealed.
My reasoning is this:
- after so long as a mystery, Angela wouldn’t be half as interesting if we knew her backstory
- consequently, the best IC character would be ruined
- Angela’s whole personality is being mysterious and interesting and witty; would the character left behind live up to that if the main aspect of her character was taken away?
- after finally finding out who she was after 22 years ( 2003-2026) how long would excitment last before disappointment took over? How could any reveal, no matter how masterful, live up to 22 years of mystery?
I’m sure that understanding Angela is a tempting prospect- in fact, the less practical side of me hates this post with a vengeance- but would it be a wise one?
